Are Smart Borders a Brexit Benefit, or Just a Benefit?

Smart borders are a benefit to all honest traders and will be essential in order for the UK to even pretend that it's coping with brexit trade. However, what exactly will it do to offset the trade barriers of our hard brexit, and is it really right to call it a brexit benefit?
